Ian Seth Curtis, 29 of Cedartown, was arrested this week after reports said he burglarized a home on South Main Street.

Reports said that the victim reported that someone had broken into her brother’s house and that no one should be there.

Once Cpl. Eason arrived on scene, he stated that he waited on other officers to arrive before he approached the house.  Once on the scene Cpl. Eason got his K9, Easy, out of the car and approached the rear of the residence.

A few moments later, he stated that he had a male laying on the ground for me to come around back. I then went to the back of the residence and approached the male. I advised the male if he moved, he would be dog bit and he stated that he was not going to move. I then placed him into handcuffs and detained him to investigate further.

While the male was laying on the ground, I was able to identify who he was by his voice, Ian Curtis.

I then helped Curtis up onto his feet. I then asked if he had anything illegal in his pockets and if I could pat him down. He stated that he didn’t think so and he would rather me not go through his pockets. I then patted the outside of his pants to make sure there was no weapons. Ofc. King then found a set of brass knuckles in the front pocket of Curtis. I then asked the male what he was doing here. He stated that he had permission to be in the back building. I then escorted Curtis back to the front of the residence and got him to lean up against the front of Cpl. Eason’s patrol car.

Curtis then kept saying he had permission to be there. Cpl. Eason then read him his Miranda warning and asked if he would still speak with us and he stated that he would. Then Cpl. Eason asked him if he had any way to call Evan Ledford, the home owner. He stated that he did could call him off of Evan’s phone. Curtis then called Evan while Cpl. Eason could hear the conversation. Evan then stated that no one should be at the residence and that the phone that was being used was taken out of his house and was his. Cpl. Eason said there was a nail approximately 12 inches in size that was lying next to the back door that Curtis used to open the door to go inside the residence.

Officers added that while placing him under arrest they located a needle, glass pipe and brass knuckles in his pocket.

Curtis is charged with 1st degree burglary, theft by taking, possession of tools for the commission of ac crime, prowling, criminal trespass, and carrying a concealed weapon.
