Earlier this week, Gordon County deputy sheriffs were dispatched to a local motel near US Highway 41 / Interstate 75 in Calhoun in response to a report of a disturbance in progress.

Upon arrival, the deputies were met by a knife wielding man behaving violently who refused to drop his knife and actually assaulted the deputies.

This man, subsequently identified as Ezekiel Cooper, age 34 of Calhoun, attempted to barricade himself inside. After a struggle in which Cooper forcefully resisted arrest, the deputies subdued him.

One deputy suffered a bite from Cooper and a second deputy was cut by broken glass. Both deputies were treated and released from the hospital, as was Cooper, for non-life threatening injuries.

Cooper was jailed and charged with multiple counts of Aggravated Assault on Law Enforcement Officers and (felony) Obstructing Law Enforcement Officers.
