Motorists traveling through Cedartown will experience delays and a detour for the next few months as the Georgia Department of Transportation works on part of U.S. 27 Business route.
The portion of Main Street in Cedartown will be closed for the next 90 days as crew build a new bridge. Along with a bridge replacement, plans call for two 11-foot-wide travel lanes and a 14 foot center lane with a curb, gutter and sidewalks.
The 149-foot section that is closed will include the short bridge near CVS Pharmacy just north of Girard Avenue.
Construction is expected to last until September, but the road should reopen in mid-April.
The detour will take motorist on either Jule Peek Avenue or West Girard Avenue to North College Street.
Commercial vehicles, or large truck traffic, are requested to use the Cedartown Bypass as a detour.
