A shoplifting incident at the Golden Package Liquor store led to the arrest of a homeless man. Summerville Police were dispatched to the location following a report of a theft in progress. According to a 911 call, the suspect was described as wearing a blue jacket and a red hat. Upon arrival, officers located a man matching the description on Kelly Street at Bittings. The individual was identified as 66-year-old Hugh Vernon Snider Jr.

Upon questioning, Snider was found in possession of four unopened 8-ounce cans of Budweiser beer, along with an additional can that he attempted to conceal in the pocket of his jacket. While police spoke with Snider, a can of beer was pouring out, soaking his jacket in the process. The total value of the stolen beers was estimated at $8, which Snider admitted to stealing from the Golden Package. Sergeant Goings later confirmed the theft by reviewing video footage from the store’s surveillance cameras, which clearly showed Snider taking the beers and hiding them in his jacket.

In addition to the stolen items, Snider was also found with two sealed 16-ounce Bud Light beers that did not originate from the Golden Package. As a result of the incident, Snider has been banned from the Golden Package Liquor store and was charged with shoplifting.
