The City of Cartersville is pleased to announce the appointment of David Archer Jr. as the new Director of Parks and Recreation.
Archer brings extensive experience in athletic administration and program development, making him well-qualified to lead the city’s efforts in enhancing recreational services and community engagement.
Archer has served as the deputy director of services and programs for the Cartersville Parks and Recreation Department since 2023. In this role, he was responsible for overseeing program development, managing staff, and coordinating with local organizations to offer a wide range of recreational opportunities. His leadership has contributed to the department’s increased program offerings and improved community outreach.
Before his tenure at the Parks and Recreation Department, Archer was the athletic director and boys’ basketball coach at Excel Christian Academy from 2020 to 2023. During this time, he successfully revitalized the school’s athletic programs and led the boys’ basketball team to a regional championship and state runner-up finish.
From 2009 to 2017 Archer served as the Director of Athletics and Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Chattahoochee Technical College where he oversaw the development and management of intercollegiate athletics, intramurals, and wellness programs. In addition to his administrative duties, he led the men’s basketball team to several national rankings, including a state championship in 2009-10, and earned multiple coaching honors. In 2017, Archer took on the role of Coordinator of Recreation and Wellness in which led the development, implementation, and management of a new initiative to provide comprehensive wellness programs for students, faculty, and staff.
Archer holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Kennesaw State University, as well as graduate coursework in sports management from Drake University. He is committed to fostering a strong sense of community involvement and excellence in recreational services.
