The Rome Alcohol Control Commission voted this week to table two amendments that would change the way businesses sell alcohol to consumers.

The first proposal called for the elimination of future variances for the 50-50 food to drink ratio.   Several businesses, such as Old Havana Cigar on Broad, is allowed to count items such as cigars to their ratio.   The proposal called for the stoppage of any new businesses to receive the variance going forward.

The second called for the stoppage of counting food truck sales to count toward the ratio.

The tabling this week comes after City Commissioners sent the proposals back to the ACC for review after a heated discussion on the topics last week.

Commissioners last week expressed concern on how the new laws would affect the three businesses that are grandfathered in.  The change would mean that their grandfather clause would not transfer to another location or another owner.

The ACC decided to look over the measures and discuss them again at their meeting in January 2025.

The issue will be discussed again during the ACC’s first meeting in January.
