On Friday, September 6th, at approximately 1:37 AM, a Rome Police Department officer observed a black Dodge Charger turning east from Lavander Drive onto Shorter Avenue. The vehicle, driven by Omar Garcia, was traveling at an extremely high rate of speed. The officer initiated a pursuit of the suspect vehicle. However, the Charger quickly vanished, prompting the officer to discontinue a pursuit and issue a lookout to all nearby units.
Moments later, another officer, traveling south on Riverside Parkway, spotted the Charger at a distance still speeding eastbound on Turner McCall Boulevard. Upon activating emergency lights and attempting to follow the Charger, the officer arrived at the scene of a severe head-on collision involving the Charger and a Honda Accord. Afterward, it was discovered that the fleeing vehicle was a Redeye edition – which is equipped with a supercharger and generates 797 horsepower.
Tragically, the collision resulted in the deaths of two occupants, Kadrian Harris and Malik Henderson, of the Honda Accord. A third occupant, a 1-year-old child, Riley Harris was critically injured. The occupants of the Charger sustained minor injuries and were hospitalized.
Garcia has been charged with 2 counts of vehicular homicide, 1 count of serious injury by vehicle, DUI, driving without a license, fleeing/attempting to elude, reckless driving, and driving too fast for conditions. He is being booked into the Floyd County Jail and will face prosecution to the fullest extent of the law.
