A 27 year-old Rome man, Dustin Paul Messex, has been sentenced to 20 years of first offender probation after pleading guilty to nearly beating a 25-year-old woman to death.
The sentence can be terminated on September 8, 2027 on good behavior.
Messex was also ordered to pay the victim restitution of $2,553.24.
He was found guilty (Alford plea) of aggravated assault, criminal damage to property (Alford Plea), and three counts of obstruction of police (Alford plea).

Dustin Paul Messex, 26 of Rome, was arrested this week after reports said he beat and attempted to severely injure a 25 year-old woman.
The victim told police that Messex attempted to choke out the woman, as well as beating her in the face.
The victim was left with numerous visible injuries.
Messex is also charged with causing over $500 in damages to the victim’s car when she attempted to leave the scene.
Officers went on to say that Messex obstructed law enforcement when they arrived at his home on Blacks Bluff Road.
Messex is charged with aggravated assault, battery, 2nd degree burglary and obstruction of law enforcement.
