Brittany Danyel Hudson, 34 of Cedartown, was arrested this week after reports said she repeatedly abused her child while she was intoxicated.

Reports said officers were dispatched to 233 South Martiele Street in response to an unruly juvenile. Upon arrival at the residence, officers observed a juvenile male and his mother (Brittany Hudson) sitting outside.

Officers said that they spoke with the child off to the side about the incident between him and his mother while a second officer remained with Hudson to collect her side of the story.

The child informed police that he and his mother had gotten into an argument over the fact that his mother had a problem with alcohol addiction.  He stated that his mother did not have a driver’s license and they had to walk everywhere because of multiple Driving Under the Influence convictions.   Officers asked the child about what happened during the recent altercation.

As the child began to softly tell the story of what happened, officers said they noticed tears rolling down his face as he began to speak.   The child stated that while walking to the liquor store, Hudson and himself began to argue over the fact that he was pleading with her to stop drinking because the judge told her that she needed to stop drinking.  The child then stated the two of them argued until they got back home.  The child stated that they continued arguing when Hudson attempted to take a cell phone that his aunt had purchased for him as a gift.  When he refused to give Hudson the phone she grabbed him by his shirt collar (which was visibly stretched as if someone grabbed it and pulled against it).

The child then stated that during the struggle Hudson hit him with an open hand across the face knocking his glasses to the ground.

The child stated that Hudson then called the police on him at this point. At that point, officers asked the child if this was the only time that something like this had happened, to which he replied no.  The child then explained to officers that he goes to stay with his aunt on every school break because Hudson tells him she can’t handle him and that she can’t take care of him.

At this point Ofc. McGuire returned and stated that Hudson had agreed to allow the child to go and stay the weekend with his aunt. Officers then told the child to pack a bag and get it ready so that when his aunt arrived he would be ready to go.

Officers then left the scene.

However, a short time later, officers were dispatched back to the home.

Upon arrival, the child met officers on the road.   He explained that he had packed 3 bags and sat them on the porch while he waited on his aunt to arrive.  It was then Hudson came outside and grabbed two of the three bags and threw them inside of the house and added that she changed her mind and that he was not leaving the house.

The child stated that he retrieved the phone that his aunt had given him and he went outside to call her. Hudson then proceeded to lock the door leaving him stranded outside.

It was then the child called police for help.

At this point Ofc. McGuire arrived and advised the child to go and stand by his patrol vehicle while we spoke to his mother.

While speaking with Hudson, police said that they detected a strong odor of alcohol emitting from her breath. Hudson then stumbled away from the door and stated that we could come inside.

Hudson became very argumentative and stated that she did not lock him out of the house, but the front door only locked from the inside or with a key.  Hudson then continued arguing, so officers secured her into handcuffs that were checked for proper fit and double locked before being placed in the patrol car under arrest.

The child was transported to the Cedartown Police Department, where officer’s fed him and sat with him until his aunt  arrived to take custody of him.

Hudson is charged with cruelty to children and obstruction.
