Ayden Ryan Matthews, 17 of Rome, was arrested this week after reports said he bit a police officer while being taken into custody during a traffic stop on Calhoun Road.

Police stated that they initiated the stop after they observed him driving with a broken taillight. 

During the stop, officers discovered that Matthews had been driving without a valid license.  It was then Matthews allegedly attempted to escape arrest by running away on foot.

After a brief chase, officers took Matthews to the ground where he bit him on the arm.

Matthews is charged with simple battery against a police officer, felony obstruction of police, driving without license and improper tail light.
