A 33 year-old Rome Man, Floydell Quinchard Smith, has been found not guilty of a murder that he was arrested for in 2023.

A jury ruled that Smith acted in self defense when he shot 30 year-old Te’Vian Markez Williams Sr at Callier Forrest Apartments on June 27, 2023.

Evidence showed that Wiliams had came toward Smith aggressively at a nearby Hi-Tech gas station before returning to the apartment complex.

Smith testified that Williams had flashed a gun during the argument. However, surveillance footage showed that Smith drove at a high rate of speed into the apartment complex and went toward Smiht’s home.

Smith testified that when he saw Willaims he took a rifle from another person and then shot Williams because he feared for his life.

Smith was found not guilty on aggravated assault charges.
