Donwin Duwayne Freeman Jr, 34 of Rome, was arrested this week after reports said he attempted to strangle a woman to death at an apartment on Lyons Drive.
Police said that Freeman used his hands to place around the neck of the victim and applied pressure to the point she could not longer breathe.
The victim was found with visible injuries to her throat upon arrival by officers.
Freeman is charged with aggravated assault.
