By a vote of 3-2 the Floyd County Board of Education voted to cut the school system’s millage tax rate on Friday.

The new rate of 17.136 mills will cut the tax rate for homeowners, meaning they will not see an increase on what they pay despite values going up.

Voting to cut taxes were board members Chip Hood, Jay Shell and Tony Daniel.  Melinda Strickland and vice chair Danny Waits voted to raise taxes for tax payers.
