Cedartown Police has called the GBI to aid in a case where a 43 year-old Cedartown woman, Melissa Anderson, lay dead in her College Drive home for an estimated two weeks before being found.

According to Cedartown Police Chief Jamie Newsome, Anderson’s father, whom she lived with, called 911 after finding the body.  Newsome said that the father reported that Anderson’s bedroom door had been locked but he “had enough of hearing her fan” when he jimmied the lock and entered the room where he found his daughter deceased.

According to Polk County Coroner Norman Smith, no foul play is expected and that her body was sent to the GBI crime lab for an autopsy and toxicology test. Newsome added that Anderson’s father had lost his smell and could not detect any odor from the body
