John Mendival’s work ethic and compassion have not gone unnoticed by his teammates. The certified nursing assistant (CNA) at Atrium Health Floyd Medical Center has been recognized as a BEE Award winner.

Those who win the Beyond Exceptional Expectations award are nominated by their nursing peers in recognition of their willingness to going beyond their job description, in whatever role they play, to support their patients and teammates.

Mendival has washed clothes and brought them to the hospital for patients who have no family. He has cut hair and taken patients outside just to get some fresh air, according to those who nominated him.

 â€śHe loves all the patients because they are all of our patients,” one person wrote.

Mendival was also recognized for taking care of his teammates so that they could also provide better care for patients, which includes picking up lunch and coming in on his days off.

He also spends time playing games with patient or just sitting and talking with them.

“I feel very humble because I am very passionate about my job, and I don’t feel like it is work,” he said. “I am honored that my peers and co-workers appreciate my contribution to the team.”
