Alvin Sylvester Chambers JR, 57 of Rome, was arrested this week after reports said he hit a sheriff’s deputy with his car while trying to avoid arrest at Popeyes on Turner McCall Blvd.
Reports stated that officers were dispatched to the restaurant in response to a hit and run.  After arriving, police said that a suspect wanted on a felony warrant was on the scene. When officer’s went to speak with Chambers, he allegedly jumped into a nearby car and sped away, in the process running over a deputy’s foot.
Chambers is charged with aggravated assault on an officer, two counts probation violation and contempt of court.
