Christopher Shawn Johnson, 36, and Hannah Marie Johnson, 31, both of Rome, were arrested at their home on Chulio Road after being accused of severely beating a small child.
Reports said that the child was struck in the face with a closed fist, which caused substantial swelling and bruising to his cheek. He was also struck on the buttocks, hips and upper legs with a belt, which left several marks and bruises.
Both are charged with aggravated battery, battery and cruelty to children in the 1st degree.
