Nine Floyd County high school students strongly represented their schools and district at the Georgia High School Association’s 2023-24 A Division I State Literary Championship this past Saturday.
Armuchee High School finished fourth overall in the state, a significant accomplishment as they competed in 6 out of the 11 events.
Congratulations to the teams and following students on their state placements/results:

- Ryan Strickland: 2nd Place in Domestic Extemporaneous Speaking
- Rylan Weaver: 2nd Place in Literary Analysis Essay
- Riley Sutton: 3rd Place in Humorous Interpretation
- Emalee Collins: 3rd Place in International Extemporaneous Speaking
- Coosa:
- Will Ayers: 3rd in Boys Solo
- Pepperell
- Both Gracie Hutcheson and Marely Escobar competed and received great results and feedback in their respective categories
“I am so proud of our literary teams and coaches,” said FCS Superintendent Dr. Glenn White. “This is a special moment for Floyd County Schools and our fine arts programs. All programs have had much success in many ways this year, and they continue to shine at high levels. Additionally, a big congratulations to Armuchee High School for their fourth-place state finish. What an incredible accomplishment! I am excited to recognize the students and coaches at the board meeting tonight.”
