According to the Calhoun Police Department, an incident involving a gun on January 20th at Calhoun Middle School has resulted in the arrest of 41 year-old Fletcher Burkett of Cohutta.

Reports said that police were called to a middle school basketball game after reports said Fletcher pulled out and brandished a gun at two people while leaving.

A male victim reported that he was at the game to watch his brother play.  He then reported that a situation escalated when Fletcher Burkett was told to be quiet.  Reports stated at that point Burkett became confrontational.

Officials then proceeded to ask Burkett to go outside.

Following the game, the male victim and his brother were leaving when they encountered Burkett in the parking lot. The victim stated that Burkett was leaning against his vehicle and stated, “You aren’t going to come out here and jump me. You don’t know who you’re f–ing with,” while pulling out a gun from his waistband.

Burkett then left the scene in his “newer silver Honda”.

The victim told police that Burkett had a child on the team from the Dalton Recreation Department.

He was later arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated assault, one count of carrying a weapon in a school safety zone or at a school function, one count of possession of firearm during commission of or attempt to commit a crime, and one count of terroristic threats and acts.
