Larry Eugene Williams Jr, 41 of Trion, was arrested and jailed this week after reports said he hit a man in the face during an altercation on Ash Street in Rome.
Police said that when they arrived on the scene, Williams attempted to flee on foot. He was captured after a brief chase.
After arriving at the jail, deputies located marijuana in his possession.
Williams is charged with battery, two counts obstruction and unlawful possession of drugs by an inmate.
