The man accused of shooting a Bartow County K9 Deputy after kidnapping a Rome woman, Geoffry Frank Walker, of Rome, has been shot and killed in DeKalb County.

According to reports, Walker was located on Friday around 4:45 p.m. at a hotel in DeKalb County. He allegedly then ran through neighborhoods and into the woods near the sanitation department located off Leroy Scott Drive in Decatur. 

Officers instructed Walker to drop his weapon when he was found, but he refused. That’s when GBI said Walker fired his weapon, and officers returned fire. 

Walker was pronouced dead at the scene.

Reports said that on September 14th Walker violated a court order to stay away from a woman when he went to her home and place of employment where he stalked and attacked her.  Police said that Walker grabbed the woman’s face and squeezed her mouth and cheek area in a forceful manner.  He also smashed the victim’s cell phone. 

Then on October 2nd, Walker was captured on camera again attacking the woman who had the restraining order against him.

Again on October 11th, Walker went to the victim’s Kingston Avenue and forcibly removed her from her home.

Walker is charged with kidnapping, two counts of aggravated stalking, simple battery, battery, criminal trespass, and four counts of willful obstruction of law enforcement.


According to Bartow County Sheriff Clark Millsap, on Thursday, October 12, 2023, at approximately 4:30 pm, Uniform Patrol and K9 Deputies observed a 2010 Honda Civic on Hwy 411 near the Interstate 75 interchange which was possibly occupied by a Geoffry Frank Walker, 30, of Rome.

Walker was wanted for an outstanding warrant through Bartow County following a family violence incident that had occurred on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at the Cartersville Walmart located at 101 Market Place Blvd in Cartersville. Walker also had additional warrants
for another family violence and obstruction incident in Floyd County earlier in the day.

A vehicle pursuit ensued with the Honda Civic and Walker eventually fled on foot from deputies. Deputy K9 Athos was released by his handler to assist in the apprehension. Multiple shots were heard and K9 Athos was found injured. K9 Athos was transported to a nearby Animal Hospital where he was treated for his injury.

Multi Agency Law Enforcement assistance was provided and a perimeter was established in an attempt to locate and apprehend Walker but following a diligent search he was not located.

Walker is described a 6’ 4”, 180 lbs., black, male, with short spiked gold bleached hair, last seen wearing gold/khaki pants, white shirt, and a black and grey jacket.
