According to reports, a 78 year-old pedestrian, Oscar George Washam, was killed in an accident in Calhoun on I 75.

According to Georgia State Patrol reports, authorities were dispatched just after noon on Saturday in response to a crash involving a pedestrian in the northbound lanes near mile marker 310.

Reports said that Washam parked his vehicle on the right shoulder of the interstate, and was outside in the right hand lane attempting to secure a loose pipe that was hanging off of a camper trailer.

Authorities then said that a northbound tractor trailer struck Washam while he was standing in the roadway.

He was pronounced dead on the scene by the Gordon County Coroner’s Office. 

Washam had been traveling with his wife at the time of his death.
