An inmate at the Floyd County Jail, Juan Rashaun Porter, 27 of Rome, is facing new charges after he allegedly injured another inmate during an altercation.

Reports said that Porter hit the inmate in the face and head with his fist.

Porter is now charged with battery and unlawful acts in a penal institution.

Juan Rashaun Porter, 27 of Rome, was arrested this week after reports said he beat a woman in the face causing injuries to her left eye, neck and face.

While being taken into custody at the Red Roof Inn on Highway 411, officers said that they found methamphetamine in plain sight.

A search warrant of the hotel room was then issued, leading officers to also locate suspected fentanyl and methamphetamine.

Porter is charged with battery, possession of methamphetamine, possession of a scheduled II controlled substance, possession of a gun during the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
