More than 100 have already registered for upcoming events focused on the new competitive teams forming at Georgia Highlands College (GHC) in soccer, volleyball, cross country and cheerleading. Registration is still open for events on April 16 in Cartersville (Cartersville Site, 5441 Hwy. 20 NE, Cartersville, GA) and April 23 in Rome (Floyd Campus, 3175 Cedartown Hwy., Rome, GA).

Visit leaguesports.highlands.edu to learn more about the new competitive sports program or to register for the event.

Those heading to the showcase this month represent counties across the region, including Gordon, Murray, Bartow, Polk, Floyd, Cobb, Forsyth, Douglas and Paulding, as well as a few from Alabama.

“The Talent Showcase is an excellent opportunity for high school seniors to take the field and learn more about the college’s competitive league sports options as well as the college’s 40-plus programs of study and numerous student life activities,” Cocurricular and Transitions Programs Coordinator for Student Life Clifton Puckett said. “Even if you’re not joining a team, come out to enjoy this preview day and learn more about what it’s like to be at GHC.”

The League Sports Talent Showcase will give participants the opportunity to show off their skills, meet with the coaches and learn more about the sports being offered.

GHC is adding four new sports to a growing list of competitive league sports now available to new and current students. Forming teams include men’s and women’s soccer, women’s volleyball, cross country and cheerleading. Basketball and eSports were also recently added.

The college’s competitive league sports teams will be part of a number of organizations, including the National Intramural and Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA), the National Club Basketball Association (NCBBA) and the Southeast Collegiate Soccer Alliance, and are ideal for those who recently competed in high school, on travel sports teams, or on competitive leagues of any kind.
