Jamie Chavez-Lopez, 21 of Cedartown, was charged with a wreck on Tuesday that resulted in the death of a beloved Cedartown Middle School Teacher.
Reports said David Brown, 57, of Carrollton, was leaving the school when he was struck by a Ford Bronco driven by Chavez-Lopez at the intersection of Collard Valley Road and the Cedartown Bypass.
After being struck by Chavez-Lopez, Brown was sent in a spin, where he collided with a Ram 3500 truck.
Authorities added that Chavez-Lopez ran the redlight before striking Brown
A statement by Polk School District reads, “Polk School District is saddened to hear of Mr. Brown’s passing. He was a valued member of our Polk School District family. Please join us in remembering Mr. Brown’s family and the students and staff of Cedartown Middle School during this difficult time.”
Chavez-Lopez is charged with homicide by vehicle in the 2nd degree, failure to obey traffic control devices and driver to exercise due care.

A Cedartown Middle School teacher, David Brown, was killed in a two-vehicle accident on Tuesday.
Reports said that the wreck occurred just seconds away from the school on the Highway 27 bypass right after dismissal.
