Desmond Lee Whipple Sr, 39 of Rome, was arrested on E 20th Street after officers said he was found with drugs while they were investigating an attack.
Police said that they were dispatched to the scene after they received a call of a female being beaten by a man. Officers said that they made contact with Whipple while investigating. In the process, police said that Whipple threw a used meth pipe with residue while being questioned.
A search then led officers to find a plastic baggie containing meth on Whipple.
Whipple is charged with possession of meth and possession of drug related objects.
