Gordon Central High School announced Lenny Gregory as its new head football coach.

Coach Gregory joins the Tribe with many accolades and championship coaching experience. He is a two-time Gwinnett County Assistant Coach of the Year, two-time 7A Region Coach of the Year, and the 2021 HUDL, AJC, and Georgia Athletic Coaches Association State 7A Coach of the Year. Gregory spent the last six years as head coach of Collins Hill High School, taking the team to the playoffs each year, playing in the championship game twice, and delivering the school’s first state football championship in 2021.

Gregory’s desire for success is rooted in developing student athletes who perform both on and off the field. He understands and values the importance of academic achievement paired with having high expectations and character development.

“I am so grateful for the opportunity to take over an incredible football program with so much potential,” Gregory said. “I am committed to building a program of excellence in everything we do. It is my belief that Gordon Central High School has the resources with outstanding student athletes and great community pride that will allow me to install a championship football program.”

When it comes to developing student athletes into successful adults, Gregory’s experiences as a successful collegiate athlete shape how he mentors his players. He was a three-year starter at Brigham Young University with all-conference player recognitions each year, learning under the tutelage of legendary coach Lavell Edwards. Coach Edwards taught Gregory the importance of building relationships with the athletes and having an open-door policy to mentor his players.

Coach Gregory and his family, wife Kathy and youngest son, Max, are eager to immediately join the Gordon County community. “I am ecstatic to move to the most beautiful part of Georgia and work with the families of the Gordon Central community,” said Gregory. His son Max plans to attend Belwood Elementary as a 4th grader. Gregory’s other children are Gabby, Hayden, Jacob, Savannah, and James. His love and devotion toward his family reflects the support and devotion he will give to his players.

Brian Hall, principal of Gordon Central High School, is excited about the vision and culture Coach Gregory will bring to Gordon Central Football. “We had over 70 applicants apply for the head football coach vacancy at Gordon Central, which is a testament to our school and the potential of our football program. Lenny stood out among the other candidates because of his astounding motor to outwork his opponents. I have no doubt he will build on the foundations of our program and deliver success.”

Gregory’s reputation as a hard worker and devoted coach comes from his philosophy to coach with excellence. The foundations of his coaching are discipline, respect, accountability, positivity, fundamentals, consistency, and uniting the team as one family—One Tribe.

Athletic Director Billy Shackelford is already planning with Gregory now that Gordon Central’s head coach has been named. “We are already discussing our youth program and feeder schools, working with Coach Blake Hilley and the Ashworth Middle School football players, varsity staff development opportunities, our weight training program, and community outreach. In time, we will create more involvement, higher expectations, and a winning culture for Warrior Football.”

Coach Gregory is ready to immediately get to work alongside parents, students, and the faculty at Gordon Central. Meetings with students interested in playing football next year will occur Friday, both at Gordon Central and Ashworth. Gregory wants to waste no time meeting everyone because he believes everything starts right now: “Today the process begins. It is time for us to move into the future of Gordon Central Football. Without knowing each other, we are instantaneously bonded by one common goal: the success of Gordon Central Football. To reach that goal, it will take an incredible amount of work and dedication from all of us.”

Welcome to the Tribe, Lenny Gregory. We’re ready to work!
