Hayden James Merritt, 27 of Cedar Bluff, was jailed in Rome after reports said he was found with cocaine after shoplifting from Home Depot.
Police said that Merritt was attempting to steal $1,331.54 worth of merchandise.
Merritt is charged with possession of cocaine and felony theft by shoplifting.
