Employees at Gildan Yarn in Cedartown were notified this week that the company is closing the plant, thus leaving all 107 out of a job.

The company said that the layoffs will be February 4th.

A letter to employees said the company has notified the Georgia Department of Labor to assist with the closure and layoff, and employees may apply for open positions at other locations.

“Gildan has been a great corporate partner in the community, and we are saddened to learn of their closure,” Cedartown City Manager Edward Guzman said in a statement Wednesday. “We will work in collaboration with the Polk County Development Authority and Georgia Department of Labor to assist former employees with finding new career opportunities in Polk County.”
