The Georgia State Patrol has ruled that Rome City Police Officer Captain Dehart was at fault after hitting a 19 year-old pedestrian at the intersection of Riverside Parkway and West First Street.

In the finalized report, GSP said that even though the pedestrian had the right away to walk she did not cross at a marked crosswalk, due to there being only one painted crossway at the intersection. Which is located on the north side of the street.  While officer Dehart was ruled at fault, no citation was given.

According to Asst. Rome Police Chief Debbie Burnett, the accident was Dehart’s first, and disciplinary action will be handled internally using the City of Rome conduct policy.

According to reports, the young woman suffered severe road rash, bruising and a sprain.
