Voters in Floyd County will have a chance to decide the future of Sunday alcohol sales this November.
The Floyd County Commission approved a referendum to allow citizens to vote on Sunday alcohol sales in unincorporated areas by the drink between 11 am and midnight. Sales currently can’t begin until 12:30 p.m.
Commissioners voted 3 to 1 to allow the vote. Commission Chair Wright Bagby Jr. and Commissioners Rhonda Wallace and Scotty Hancock were in favor. Commissioner Larry Maxey voted no and Commissioner Allison Watters was not present.
The City of Rome currently allows for the sale of alcohol by the drink on Sunday. Voters passed the bill with 65.3% in 2019.
The Floyd County Elections Board must now approve the addition of the county’s referendum to the local ballot being drawn up for the Nov. 8 general election.
