The son of a Rome man killed in a Sunday shooting, Derricus Ramon Whatley Jr, 19 of Rome, was arrested this week after reports said he pulled a gun on another during an altercation at 200 South Broad Street.

Police said that after Whatley discharged the gun at the victim and others in a public street.

The incident occurred just after 3pm on July 4th.

Whatley is charged with two counts aggravated assault, discharging a firearm on the property of another, possession of a firearm during the commission of  crime, pointing a firearm at another and reckless conduct.

On Sunday, July 3 at about 5:50 pm Rome/Floyd 911 received a call of a vehicle accident with injury on Tolbert Street. Other calls received advised the driver has been shot. Upon officers arrival they found the victim with a gunshot wound. Officers began rendering first aid until emergency medical personnel arrived. The victim was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The victim is identified as Derricus Whatley, 40 years old with a Rome address.

Rome Police Criminal Investigators assumed control of the scene and investigation.

An arrest warrant for the suspect, 20 year old Stephano Green has been issued. He has not been located at this time.
