Cedartown Police are asking for the public to provide any information they can about a suspect in an armed robbery who fled the soon-to-open Lucky’s Food Mart on Tuesday night, June 21.

According to Assistant Chief Craig Payton of the Cedartown Police Department, the suspect got away with $1,600 and fled into the woods behind the store, located at 530 N. Main St., Cedartown, following the robbery reported at 10:26 p.m.

He was described as a tall, slender man wearing camouflage clothing, a hat and mask at the time of the incident.

Payton reported that an employee of Lucky’s, which is located in the old Pizza Hut on North Main Street, was getting the store ready to open during late evening hours at the time of the robbery. All the doors were locked except for the back door of the store, and the suspect got in through there.

He then confronted the employee, demanded money at gunpoint, took the cash on hand and fled through the woods behind the area of the store.

A K-9 dog was brought out to help find a track, and it ended not far away leading police to believe he had a vehicle parked to get away from the scene.

The case is still under investigation, and police hope that tips from the public might help develop a suspect. Those with information are encouraged to contact the Cedartown Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division at 770-748-4123 and ask for Detective Smith.
