Cherokee County, Alabama authorities have confirmed that they have made a second arrest in the case of a murdered Cedartown man. Nicholas Silvers, 39 of Gaylessville, was jailed Monday night on a burglary charge.
Silvers had been wanted for questioning in connection with the murder of 40 year-old Lachancey Williams in March.
Silvers was named a “person of interest” earlier this month by Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver.
Nicholas Silvers, 38 at the time, has a history of trafficking methamphetamine. He was arrested at the intersection of Park Avenue and South 1st Street in Lindale last July on drug trafficking charges. Police stated that officers found over 28 grams of methamphetamine during a search
following a traffic stop for a window tint violation.
On April 21, 2022, Eric Hooper, 28 of Centre, was arrested in Cherokee County and charged with murder, and receiving stolen property in the 3rd degree.
Hooper was extradited from Polk County, Georgia, and placed in the Cherokee County Detention Center on Thursday, April 14th – where he remains on bond of $1,500,000.
Williams’ body was found in a tool box, by crews which were doing road work in Polk County, along Eason Hill Road, back on March 15th.
It’s believed the murder actually occurred just outside of Centre.

Sheriff Jeff Shaver and Sheriff’s Office investigators are enlisting help from the public in locating a person of interest in connection to a homicide that took place in March, in Esom Hill (Polk County). According to Sheriff Shaver, Polk County, Georgia, road crew workers discovered the body of Lachancey Williams, 40 of Cedartown, while doing road work along Esom Hill Road on March 15th.
The person of interest wanted for questioning is identified as 38 year-old Nick Silvers. Silvers is a resident of Cherokee County and known to be in the area. According to Chief Deputy Josh Summerford, one person has been arrested and charged with Murder in connection to this homicide. Eric K. Hooper, 28 of Centre, was placed in the Cherokee County Jail on April 14th, after being extradited from the jail in Polk County, Georgia. Hooper is being held on a $1.5-million-dollar bond.

The GBI has confirmed that the body found on Esom Hill Road in Polk County was that of 40 year-old Lachancey Williams of Cedartown,
Reports said that William’s body was found inside a toolbox by members of the Public Works department at 9:40 a.m. on Tuesday morning, March 15.
The area where the body was found is the portion of the roadway between Highway 100 North and Prior Station Road west of Cedartown.
The GBI reports that the death remains under investigation, and have not released any further details.

Polk County authorities were dispatched to a rural area on Esom Hill Road in Polk County after a human body was found inside a toolbox.
According to Polk Today, the body was found by a Public Works employee around 9:40 while working in the area.
Reports said that the unidentified body was sent to the GBI crime lab for an autopsy.
