James Dwayne Bennett, 56 of Adairsville, was arrested in Rome this week after reports said he was found with drugs after leading police on a high speed chase.

Police said that after attempting to pull Bennett over for a traffic stop he fled away at speeds of over 20 mph the posted limit.  He is also accused of running multiple stop signs while failing to maintain his lane of travel.

After eventually stopping he was found to have been driving under the influence and in possession of methamphetamine.  

Bennett is charged with possession of methamphetamine, attempting to elude police, stop sign violation, speeding, reckless driving, driving on a suspended license, failure to maintain lane, fleeing, driving on a suspended registration, aggressive driving, obstruction, reckless driving and DUI.
