A science teacher for Whitfield County Schools, Michael David Powers, 36 of Tunnel Hill, was arrested in Rome this week after reports said he engaged in online conversations of a sexual nature with someone he thought to be under the age of 16 years.

Reports said that he engaged in online conversations in which he described sex acts he wished to perform on the child.  Police added that Powers proceeded to send four photographs of his penis to the child.

Reports went on to say that he threatened to expose the child to others if she did not send him nude photographs.

He was taken into custody at a location in which he arranged to meet the child at in Rome.

Powers is charged with aggravated child molestation, four counts electronically furnishing  obscene materials to a minor, use of a computer to solicit a child to commit a felony, obscene internet contact with a child and sexual exploitation of a child .
