Johnny Ray Thomason Jr, 30 of Buchannan, was arrested in Rome after a traffic stop led police officers to find a gun illegally in his possession.
Police said that stopped Thomason for not wearing his seat belt while driving on Burnett Ferry Road.
When speaking with the suspect, officers found that Thomason was driving without insurance and on a suspended license. During the course of the investigation officers found a bullet in his pocket.
A search of the vehicle then led them to locate a loaded .22 caliber handgun between the front seat and the console. Additional bullets were also located in the vehicle.
Thomason, a convicted felon, is not allowed to possess a gun by law.
Thomason is charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, driving on a suspended license, driving without insurance, seat belt violation and voluntary cancellation of vehicle registration.
