On August 12, 2021 at 14:37, the Uniformed Patrol Division of the Polk County Police Department responded to a residence on Tallapoosa Highway in reference to a Burglary In Progress Call.

The caller advised Polk County E-911 that she confronted a male inside of her residence as she returned home from work. The male fled the home on foot. While en route to the residence, Officer Lonergan (#829) spotted a male subject (later identified Troy Emerich of Nevada) walking down the road. Officer Lonergan proactively stopped the subject.

Through the investigation, it was determined that Mr. Emerich had involvement in the Burglary. While processing the scene, another caller contacted Polk County E-911, stating that another subject was walking in the area of Highway 100 / Treat Mountain Road.

Detective Bowman (#810) and Officer Lonergan (#829) relocated to the area, and located another male subject (identified as Justin Hamilton of Alabama) walking down the road. Through the investigation, both subjects were charged in the Burglary. They were taken into custody without incident. We also recovered the suspect vehicle on Highway 100.

This is still an active investigation, with additional charges possible. We have information to believe that these subjects may be involved in other incidents in the area. Anyone in the area with any additional information is encouraged to call Detective Crawford (#815) at (678) 246-5123, who is handling this case. We would like to thank the Cedartown Police Department for their assistance in this case.
