A 41 year-old Rome man, Lenesto Llorente Freeman, died after he was found hanging by a bed sheet in his Polk County Jail cell Thursday.

Reports said that as soon as officers saw Freeman they cut him down and then administered CPR while notifying 911.

Freeman was transported to Polk Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.

Polk County Coroner Norman Smith said that Freeman’s body would be sent to the GBI crime lab for an autopsy.

Freeman was being held on a parole violation stemming from his arrest by Rockmart police last December.

His original charges were felony obstruction of a law enforcement officer, simple battery on a peace officer,  criminal attempt to commit a felony, disorderly conduct and six counts of misdemeanor obstruction of a law enforcement officer.
