John Daniel Whatley III, 18 of Rome, was arrested this week after police said he lied about a shooting that occurred late last year.
Reports said that Whatley gave police verbal and written statements about a shooting that were a lie. Authorities stated that Whatley led investigators on a search for alleged suspects, even naming them, when he knew that it was a lie.
Police went on to say that Whatley later admitted to fabricating the story and told police the true facts.
Whatley is charged with false statements and writings.
