Brittney Shayanna Cochran, 37 of Kingston, was arrested this week after reports said she failed to send her daughter to school and accumulated 17 unexcused absences.
Reports stated that staff attempted to make contact with Cochran on December 2 and 9th. It was only after an investigating officer contacted the parents did the child show up for school on December 10th. School staff then met with Cochran on December 11th and sent a truancy letter home on January 7th after the child again continued to fail to show up for school. The child has not been at school since December 17th.
Cochran is charged with the mandatory education of children.
