Floyd County Schools has released a timeline for upcoming closures and transitions within the district.
For the 2021-2022 school year, the superintendent recommended all fifth-grade classes move to their attendance area middle schools, and Pepperell Primary School (PPS) second grade will move to Pepperell Elementary School (PES). All Floyd County middle schools will house fifth, sixth, and seventh grades. PES will house second, third, and fourth grades. PPS will remain PreK, kindergarten, and first grade. All Floyd County high schools will remain grades eight through 12. Pepperell Middle School will move to its new facility during the summer of 2021. The former McHenry Primary School building will officially close after the move is complete.
For the summer of 2022, the Board has approved the superintendent’s recommendation to close Cave Spring Elementary School (CSES) and Glenwood Primary School (GPS) due to student enrollment and financial considerations for the school system as a whole. This is the first step in a long-term process of making Floyd County Schools (FCS) financially sound. All FCS faculty and staff members will continue to have a position within the school district regardless of school closures.
For the 2022-2023 school year, Armuchee Elementary School will absorb all GPS students. CSES students will be redistricted into existing facilities within the school district.
