The Bartow County Sheriff’s Office has taken custody of a local man who assaulted an elderly man and was shot by a neighbor.
According to Sheriff Clark Millsap, several persons called 911 in response to a disturbance in the area of Floral Drive just north of Cartersville just after 7PM Wednesday. When deputies arrived on scene, it was discovered that the resident at the home had been assaulted with a board by a subject who was being held at gunpoint by a neighbor. The subject had been shot several times when he attempted to assault the good Samaritan and another person with a metal post.
The assault victim was transported by helicopter to an Atlanta area hospital and the subject was taken to another area hospital for treatment of his gun shot wounds which were not life threatening. This subject was transported in custody of the Sheriff’s Office and has been charged with initial counts of burglary, two counts of aggravated assault and one count of criminal trespass.
The two neighbors who assisted do not face any charges. The offender in this case will face more charges once the investigation is completed and further assessment of the victim’s injuries. No names are being released at this time due to both the ongoing investigation and the nature of the injuries of the victim.
Sheriff Millsap says that more information and names of the persons involved will be released when it becomes available for publication.
