Jackie Levon Smith, 47 of Calhoun, was jailed in Rome after he attacked officers who were attempting to arrest him for shoplifting.
Reports said that Smith is accused of taking $168 worth of merchandise from the West Rome Walmart without paying and then proceeding to flee the scene.
After later being found on Riverbend Drive reports said Smith hit an officer with his fist, causing visible injury.
Smith is charged with theft by shoplifting, obstruction, criminal trespass, probation violation, and failure to appear.
