Rome City Commissioner Bill Collins was voted as the new mayor on Monday night. Collins, who won with a 5-4 vote, becomes the first minority mayor in the history of Rome.
He defeated incumbent Jamie Doss.
Voting for Collins was Collins, Wendy Davis, Sundai Stephenson, Milton Slack and Randy Quick.
Voting for Doss was Doss, Craig McDaniel, Evie McNiece, and Bill Irmscher.
Wendy Davis, who was Mayor Pro Tem, was nominated but did not receive a second. Randy Quick was then nominated and selected as Pro Tem.
