Chase Paul Bellew, 30 of Thomaston, was jailed in Rome this week after reports said he smuggled money that he found from a mislaid wallet into the Floyd County Prison.
Authorities said that Bellew threw the wallet into the trash after taking $57 that was inside.
Reports added that Bellew then used the money to buy items from another inmate.
Bellew is charged with theft by taking, theft of lost and mislead property, items prohibited by an inmate.
