Gordon County deputy sheriffs were dispatched to a private residence at 1172 Midway Road near the Resaca community in response to a report of a shooting/domestic disturbance on Monday.
Deputies arrived to find a 51 year old woman suffering from a gunshot wound to her face/head. She was removed from the scene by emergency medical personnel and subsequently flown to Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga, Tennessee where she remains hospitalized in serious condition.
After a brief standoff, deputies arrested her husband, Harlon Phillips, age 51, of 1172 Midway Road. Detectives recovered the pistol believed to have been used in the assault, along with other physical evidence. Phillips was jailed and now faces charges of Aggravated Assault and firearms offenses. Phillips remains in custody awaiting bond proceedings.
