Norma Jean Thornton, 45 of Rome, was jailed this week after she was accused of setting fire to an apartment complex near Dean Avnue.

Reports said that the fire at High Street apartment complex was set just before 8 pm Thursday.

Investigators said that Thornton used a lighter to set a king sized matress on fire in a store room. The fire spread and eventally caused the roof to collapse.

The fire resulted in damage to six home, however, no one was injured in the fire.

Thornton is charged with six counts of arson.

Norma Jean Thornton, 44 of Rome, was arrested on Wednesday after allegedly setting a fire to a home on King Street.

Reports said that Thornton and the owner of the home, whom she was living with, got into an altercation before she set a fire to a building out back.

Reports added that several witnesses saw Thornton and the homeowner engaged in an altercation in the street before the fire occurred.

Fire officials are still working to determine how the fire spread.

No one was injured.
