A 25 year-old Lindale man, Jeffary Lee Akins, has been arrested after two small children were shot with his gun last Sunday.
Reports said that Akins, a convicted felon, was in possession of numerous guns, which were loaded, when his nephew accidently shot himself, as well as Akins’ child on Doyle Road .
Akins is charged with furnishing a gun to someone under 18, two counts cruelty to children, three possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and use of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
Two juveniles were shot outside a home at 128 Doyle Road in Rome around 10:30 Sunday morning.
Reports stated that a 13 year-old male was playing with a .40 caliber handgun when it went off, striking him in the side of the stomach. The bullet traveled through and struck an 8 year-old in the hand.
Both children were transported to a local hospital. The 7 year-old is said to he stable. The 13 year-old is listed in serious condition.
The children were airlifted to an Atlanta hospital for treatment.
