A Rome couple, Catherine Gina Sartin, 25, and Nicholas Justin Ashley, 26, were arrested during a traffic stop on Highway 100 and Ga 20 after they were found to have been driving a stolen Honda Accord.

Reports said that the car was taken from Emerson, Georgia.

Both are charged with felony theft by receiving stolen property.

Ashley is additionally charged with probation violation.

According to Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver, a pursuit began On Alabama Highway 9 north of Cedar Bluff after Sheriff’s Office investigators attempted to stop a vehicle for not having a license plate.  The vehicle, later determined to be stolen from Georgia, was occupied by a Rome, Georgia couple.  The pursuit ended at the intersection of Georgia Highway 20 and 100 near Plant Hammond and the two were taken into custody with the assistance of the Floyd County Police Department.  Illegal drugs were also discovered inside the vehicle.

The driver, Nicholas J. Ashley, age 26, was arrested on an existing Georgia warrant and the passenger, Catherine G. Sartin, age 26, was arrested on theft charges.  Both were transported to the Floyd County Jail and await extradition to Cherokee County on charges of receiving stolen property, attempting to elude, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
